“…asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding….in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father…”

The knowledge of His will on any ordinary days
begins with borrowed wisdom, and ends with pain. Or praise.
But sacred covenants intrude, as do the promises we keep,
(which, as Frost observed, must be kept before we sleep.)
Somewhere between the two, between the daily and divine,
We often pause and marvel while waiting for a sign.
There are many signs, perhaps, but this mystery is one:
As two unite in marriage, the church is wedded to the Son.
Through this our knowing Him is lived out in fruitful ways;
our promises and passions become a sacrament of praise—
The ordinary is transfigured; an embrace becomes a prayer,
moments shared now signify His presence and His care.
Of patient perseverance we now know more than before:
A wedding is a prayer for this. And for joy. And for much more.
